What is a Canis dirus ?
The Canis dirus, or Dire Wolf, is a large, heavy-boned, prehistoric wolf that once roamed the plains of North America (during the Pleistocene Epoch "the Ice Age").
Although of only similar height to today's North American grey wolf, the Canis dirus was much more massive in its skeletal structure, especially its skull. Many fossilized skeletons of the Dire Wolf have been found in the famous La Brea Tar Pits located in Los Angeles, California.
